Talking about Production Control and Quality Inspection of Corrugated Cardboard

Based on years of tracking the production process of corrugated board and some experiences in dealing with customer complaints and complaints, we will talk about how to produce corrugated cardboard that meets customers' requirements and share it with our peers.

In order to avoid the occurrence of corrugated board quality problems and reduce customer complaints, the following aspects should be controlled and tested.

Item 1: Corrugated cardboard molding

Quality standards: There is no inverted tile in corrugated board, and there is no crushing or crumple defect in corrugated board.

Test method: Cut with a utility knife and visually inspect the incision for confirmation.

Example: In the production process of corrugated cardboard, sometimes due to sharpness of the slitting tool, the edge of the corrugated cardboard will appear squashing phenomenon, which will easily lead to misunderstanding by the customer during appearance inspection. It is determined that the paperboard is tiled, and certainly includes some malicious customers. This phenomenon is said to be a tile to achieve the purpose of returning or discounting. When confronted with this kind of quality complaint, corrugated board can be cut in the middle and compared with the qualified corrugated board to convince the customer, but to meet the customers, special attention must be paid in the production process to control the edge of the board that cannot be flattened. .

Item 2: Corrugated board thickness

Quality standards: C>3.5mm, B>2.5mm, E>1.1mmBC>6mm, BE>3.6mm

Test method: The corrugated board thickness tester is used to measure the thickness of the corrugated board. Both sides of the corrugated board and the center are to be determined. The principle that the lowest part cannot be smaller than the above dimensions. For individual customers with special thickness requirements, control must be particularly strengthened. In order to facilitate the retrospection of the quality of products in the future, each product must maintain a checklist of corrugated cardboard items. Since each sample of cardboard is inconvenient to manage, the corrugated board can be cut horizontally to cover the corrugated board like a stamp. The cardboard lid covers the inspection sheet.

Item 3: Warpage

Quality Standards: The national standard specifies the scope of warpage of corrugated cardboard. To strengthen quality control, it is recommended that the principle of no warping of the board should be required.

Inspection method: Place the corrugated board on a flat surface for visual inspection and dimensional measurement.

Special case: As there are many factors that determine the flatness of corrugated board, warpage of corrugated board often occurs. Because the corrugated board has a certain degree of heat after it has just been produced, it is effective to take measures to correct the flatness of the board. Paperboards that have just been produced are usually laid up and down every 15 sheets or so, and are then pressed with heavy objects to correct them. The focus here is to talk about single-sided tile production control, because single-sided tiles are singed on one side during the production process. In the drying process, the warp phenomenon is easily caused by the shrinkage of the paper, and then by reducing the steam pressure during the drying process. The method has achieved a more obvious effect, and the corrugated board produced has a better flatness. In addition, in the course of offset printing, corrugated cardboard is also prone to warping phenomenon, which is equivalent to the corrugated board warpage is also discussed. The author once thought that this kind of bending was unavoidable and he didn't take it seriously. Later, the customer complained continuously. The author used the corrugated board warping standard required by the national standard to explain to the customer that the customer simply did not accept it, especially the need to automatically pack on the automatic packaging machine. The warpage of a product, a piece of corrugated cardboard, sometimes results in blockage of the entire production line and affects the customer's production efficiency. Later, the installation of water rollers and other measures was not effective, and sometimes the water added to the corrugated board increased the strength of the board due to too much water. Finally, efforts were made in the management sector. For the newly-laid-up corrugated cardboard, stacking pressure was applied every 10 sheets, just like the cardboard board just produced by the host. Some of the long-term inventories of corrugated cartons were originally scrapped due to warpage. After trials, they solved the warpage problem by stacking and applying pressure after the artificial water was rubbed on paper.

Item 4: Deviations in the Size of Corrugated Boards

Quality standard: The width deviation of corrugated board requires ±1mm in width and ±2mm in length.

Test method: For a few corrugated boards, simple and fast methods can be used for measurement. Simultaneously, the cardboard samples are taken out in parallel and the size of a cardboard is measured with a ruler. After the other cardboard is turned 180 degrees, the cardboard is compared with the cardboard, and the alignment of the cardboard is determined.

Item 5: Adhesive Strength of Corrugated Paperboard

Quality Standards: Corrugated cardboard is fully bonded, with particular attention to paper edge debonding or false bonding.

Test method: The corrugated cardboard tear test, press with a finger, visual inspection and other methods. It should be emphasized that in order to prevent the false-bonding from causing discarding of the entire batch of cardboard, the first inspection of the cardboard must be performed by tearing the entire cardboard.

Item 6: Case of Corrugated Boards

Quality standards: Corrugated board without breaking phenomenon, folding can be folded straight.

Test method: Confirm by manually bending the corrugated cardboard. Due to the shallow lightness of the PET bar, customers sometimes use it, because the flap cannot be properly folded to affect the use of the return, and they have to be manually re-rolled to correct it, wasting a lot of manpower, so to strengthen the inspection of the PET bar.

Item 7: Paper edge and edge condition of corrugated cardboard

Quality standards: Corrugated cardboard has no defects such as missing edges, no paper scraps, no extrusion, and no damage.

Inspection method: visual confirmation. For food corrugated cartons, especially for export food corrugated cartons, if paper scraps fall into the packing box, they will be treated as foreign matter. Therefore, attention must be paid to the inspection of the knife edge and the cut edge.

Item 8: Paper Control of Corrugated Paperboard

Quality Standards: Production is strictly in accordance with customer requirements.

In the production process of corrugated cardboard, it is often encountered that the order quantity of a certain product is small, and the product is similar to the previous product paper. Sometimes, in the production process, the paper with the small amount of orders used is produced together with the paper, so that the replacement paper exceeds the customer's specified paper standard, and the stability of the paper cannot be guaranteed once the customer approves the replacement. With paper products, and then according to the customer's actual paper products, the quality of the two will be different, the customer will have doubts and complaints. Therefore, we must strictly follow the customer's requirements for the production of paper. When replacing the paper, we must communicate with customers in advance.

Item 9: Control of Moisture

Quality standards: Corrugated board moisture control at 10 ± 2%.

The moisture content of the base paper used to produce the paperboard, the preheating and drying, the characteristics of the base paper raw materials and adhesives, the drying and cooling processes performed after the paperboard is bonded, and the production and distribution environment all affect the moisture content of the corrugated cardboard.

The main methods for controlling the moisture in corrugated board are the following:

The moisture content of the incoming base paper must be strictly controlled. According to national standards, the water content of the original paper delivery state is generally 9% to 12%. First of all, in the procurement of base paper, we must strictly control the moisture content of the raw paper coming into the factory and require suppliers to supply qualified raw paper.

In addition, the base paper storage must set up a separate warehouse, the temperature is generally 15 °C ~ 20 °C, relative humidity is generally 30% ~ 40%. Do not put it in the open air, which will easily cause the change of the moisture content of the raw paper, and it will cause the water content at both ends and in the middle to be inconsistent.

Perform reasonable temperature control. Temperature is one of the decisive factors affecting the quality of corrugated board. In the production of corrugated board, reasonable temperature control should be carried out. The temperature can both adjust the water content of the base paper, but also affect the temperature of the base paper, so that the adhesive is cured in a reasonable time.

There are many preheaters and dryer boards on the corrugated board production line, which are used to adjust the moisture content of the base paper and single-sided paperboard, and to cure the adhesive and bond the various layers of corrugated cardboard.

The quality of the adhesive, the size of the amount of glue, the size of the water content, and the dilute thickness, etc., are reasonably regulated. If the binder has a large amount of water, the binder is thin and the permeation is fast, the water content of the cardboard is high, whereas the water content is small. When the amount of glue is large, the water content of the board is large; the amount of glue is small and the water content is small. Therefore, according to the adhesive's water content and mixing ratio and mixing time, the glue must be prepared and the viscosity of the adhesive should be well understood.
