Product packaging voluntary labels and tags

One. "e" mark

The "e" mark acts like a metrology "pass" to facilitate the free circulation of products within the EU. The goods marked with "e" can guarantee that the weight and volume of certain liquids or other goods specified in the EU directives 75/106/EEC and 76/211/EEC comply with EU requirements. Although the EU does not have mandatory requirements to comply with the above two directives, goods that comply with the above directives can ensure that they can move freely within the EU area before packaging.

Containers marked with an "e" mark will also be labeled with "nominal weight or volume" of the product. The packaging company (or importer, if the container is produced outside the EU) is responsible for ensuring that the container meets EU requirements. The packaging company (or importer) is responsible for checking and measuring the goods in the container.

II. Ecolabel (Eco label)

To enable consumers in the EU and in Norway, Liechtenstein, and Ireland to identify officially recognized “green products,” the European Union has developed a system called “ecolabel”. The system was implemented since 1992 and the "ecolabel" reminds consumers that the product meets EU environmental standards. These standards cover everyday consumer goods and services (excluding food, beverages and medicines). The "ecolabel" is a paid label. Specifically, the label includes the following products: household cleaning products, lamps, bedding, personal computers, office papers, laptop computers, tableware cleaning products, refrigerators, dishwashers, soil improvement. Agents, footwear, televisions, textiles, toilet paper, floor coverings, interior paint coatings, tourism accommodation services, laundry cleaning products, vacuum cleaners and washing machines.

It should be pointed out that some EU member states use their own "eco-labels" that are different from the EU's uniform regulations, such as Germany's use of the "Lan Angel" sign and the Nordic countries using the "swan" sign.

III. Recycling Marks for Waste Packaging Materials

The “circular arrow” marks on various packaging materials of products sold on the EU market, including cans, glass bottles, spray aerosol containers and plastic containers, indicate that the packaging can be recycled.

1, plastic products

The European Union has established a system to help consumers identify the type of plastics used in packaging. In the “circular arrows”, the type of plastic is indicated by numbers, and the abbreviation of the plastic name is indicated under “circular arrows”.

EU code abbreviation English full name

1PETPOLYETHYLENETerepthalate

2HDPEHighDensityPolyethylene

3PVCPolyViny1Chloride

4LDPELowDensityPolyethylene

5PPPolypropylene

6PSPo

Lystyrene

2. Battery

Most of the batteries sold on the European Union market are also marked with “circular arrows”, and the types of batteries are indicated in words to help consumers recycle. According to the "European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive", battery products must be stamped with a mark indicating that they cannot be discarded in the household garbage box.

3, glass

There is not a single uniform recycling mark for glass products in the EU, but the EU encourages member states to use their mark for recyclable glass.

IV. "Energy Saving Star"

The "energy-saving star" is a voluntary label that helps consumers identify commercially available office equipment that can reduce energy consumption, such as computers, monitors, printers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, and other multi-function devices. If the product meets or exceeds energy efficiency standards, the label can be applied. The "energy-saving star" tag was issued in the United States. At the end of 2000, the EU and the United States signed the "Energy Saving Star Labeling Agreement", which unified the two energy-saving product signs on the market. The agreement stipulates a set of uniform energy efficiency standards and labels. This mark has become a means of product promotion.

V. "Green Point"

The "Green Point" unifies the system of participants in the system to recycle and classify waste packaging. It should be said that the system is managed by the member countries according to their country's packaging law, so the actual operation of the EU member states is not consistent. The supreme body of the system is the "European Packaging Recycling Organization", which is responsible for Europe's "Green Point" management. At present, there are approximately 460 billion circulating packages in the world with “green dot” marks on them. Units wishing to obtain the "Green Point" mark can contact the regulatory agencies of the corresponding EU member states.
