Method for sorting mixed crushed materials of PE, PP and PET
When dealing with a mixture of PP, PE, and PET crushed materials, one effective method is to use the density separation technique. Start by placing the mixed materials into a large container or pool filled with water. Since PET has the highest density among the three—ranging from 1.30 to 1.38—it will sink to the bottom first. This allows you to easily identify and remove the PET portion.
Next, gradually add alcohol to the water. Alcohol reduces the overall density of the liquid. By carefully adjusting the concentration of alcohol, you can lower the density of the solution to around 0.91. At this point, PP, which has a density between 0.89 and 0.91, will begin to sink as well. However, PE has a slightly higher density, ranging from 0.91 to 0.965, so it will remain suspended or float depending on the exact density of the solution. This allows for further separation of PE from the remaining material.
This method is widely used in recycling processes because it's cost-effective and doesn't require complex equipment. It relies on the fundamental principle that objects with different densities will behave differently in a liquid of controlled density. With proper adjustment, you can effectively sort out PP, PE, and PET materials individually, making the recycling process more efficient and sustainable.
