Haifeng International Hotel Architectural Design Summary

Haifeng International Hotel, located in Haifeng County, Guangdong Province, is the first star-rated hotel in the county. It was constructed by a company based in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with an investment of 120 million yuan. Construction began in early 2002, and the design process started in 2003. The building currently has more than three floors above ground. Situated to the west of Haifeng County, the hotel is conveniently located near the existing Guanghe Highway, a river, and a main road. As a key landmark for the county’s urbanization, extensive research was conducted on similar hotels during the early design phase. The project integrates local culture and lifestyle characteristics into its layout, traffic flow, and architectural style. The building is 12 stories tall, including a three-story podium, with approximately 45 underground parking spaces and a total construction area of 34,200 square meters. The design aims to maximize natural lighting and ventilation, promoting energy efficiency and economic viability. The main entrance faces the Guangshan Highway, while the dance hall entrance is on the east side, and the restaurant entrance is on the southwest. A double-car ramp provides access to the underground garage on the south side, and auxiliary rooms are located on the west side. Fengxian Architectural Design Office, located in Guangdong Haifeng (516400), ensured that pedestrian and vehicle traffic were well-organized, minimizing interference and ensuring a clear layout. The building is situated on a shaped plot, using a combination of a podium and a short main tower. The structure follows a frame system with an 8.8m column grid, fully reinforced concrete construction. Brick-filled walls are used for external walls, while internal partitions are lightweight. The building is designed for 7-degree seismic resistance, with the first basement floor meeting level 6 civil defense standards and serving as a garage and equipment room. The fourth floor is planned as a service layer but was later converted into a rooftop garden with a tennis court and pool to enhance guest leisure and fitness options. The presidential suite is located on the top floor, offering private services, meeting areas, and entertainment facilities. The ground floor serves as the main transportation hub, with four distinct circulation zones: service hall, elevator room, curved staircase, and public event space. Each floor is designed with clear traffic lines, ensuring smooth movement between levels. Separate staircases connect the dining and ballroom areas, meeting fire safety requirements. Public spaces are arranged around the lobby, creating a cohesive and welcoming environment. The two-story lobby is the focal point of the hotel, featuring a spacious and elegant entrance hall with smooth lines and a warm atmosphere. The reception desk is prominently placed, leading into the ballroom and restaurant spaces. The spatial sequence enhances the sense of openness and engagement, creating a dynamic and inviting interior. The exterior design emphasizes contrast through the use of semi-circular pilasters and horizontal windows, balancing visual strength with calmness. The materials and color scheme highlight depth and harmony, reinforcing the building's modern and timeless character.
