PageMaker Software Color Management System Control Functions

Due to the embedded structure, PageMaker itself only provides specific operation methods for color management. The main layer is for setting and managing device feature files for colors in two different types of processing objects: graphic text and color images. And color management of color images.

1. Defining the device's features by coloring graphic text

Coloring defining device features with colors involves two aspects: manually setting new colors and letting color management (CMS) automatically assign device features to new colors.

(1) Manually setting device features for new colors

1 Select Window/History Color Board.

2 Select "Add color" from the color palette.

3 In the "Color Options" dialog box, "Name" must be entered with a name.

a. Select “Category” (special color, printing color, talk color) “touch type” (RGB, HLS, CMYK) and color value by inner color to select the coloring color that you need;

b. Select a color from the predefined Color Bank.

4 In the Color Options dialog box, click CMS Sources.

5 Select the color device characteristics (source profile) according to the following guidelines:

a. If you intend to create an RGB color, the device profile selected by the color should be consistent with the device profile of the user monitor;

b. If you plan to create a CMYK color, the device profile selected for that color should be consistent with the user's "separation printer" device profile.

6 Click OK to return to the Collar Options dialog.

7 Click OK.

This completes the process of defining color device features for coloring colors.

(2) Let Color Management (CMS) automatically assign device features for new colors.

1 Select "File/Custom Format/General" and click "CMS Settings".

2 In the CMS Customization Format dialog box, select the color management system from New Project Usage to set the device profile for the new color.

3 In Monitor Emulation, specify the monitor description file for the newly created RGB color, specify the “color separation printer” device description file for the newly created CMYK color, and select “None” to turn off the newly created color management.

4 Click OK to exit the CMS Custom Format dialog box. Then click OK.

2. Define device characteristics for color images

Color images can be generated from different sources, such as drawing programs, scanners, and so on. If you created it with an application with CMS, this image contains the CMS's device profile, which specifies the color gamut of the image's color.

(1) Principles for using source description files when placing image files:

1 If the image was created with an application that supports the Kodak CMS, PageMaker applies the Kodak CMS source description file.

2 If the source description file specified in the image file is not available, the PageMaker application default CMS selects the default description file.

3 If there is no original description file specified in the image file, PageMaker applies the default CMS and selects the source description file that best matches the image color mode from the "RGB image source" and "CMYK image source".

4 If you want to change the device profile settings that PageMaker determines, you can reset the correct CMS source profile.

5 If the placed image is to be color corrected in an application such as PhotoShop, the source description file should be reset in PageMaker after editing.

(2) Two ways to set the color image device feature file A. Apply Source Description File When Placing Color Images

1 Select File/Place.

2 Select the image to place and click CMS Source.

3 From the CMS Source Profile dialog box, select a corresponding device description file.

4 Click OK.
