Second, the nature of paper

Three properties of paper were tested, including whiteness, opacity, and gloss. In this experiment, the paper to be tested was placed in a constant-humidity constant-temperature room in advance for 24 hours, and then the properties were tested. The test methods will be described in detail below.

Test Location: Paper Test Laboratory Test Equipment:

(a) Brightness measurement:

1. Preparation:

(1) Connect the "W" Search Unit and press the B key on the panel.
(2) Select the Gain Switch button at the rear of the main unit at the Hi position. After the machine is warmed up, perform the following calibration procedure.

2. Zero correction:

(1) Place the Blake Cavity on the Search Unit.
(2) Press the CHANGE key, and the display shows blank.
(3) Press the ZERO key. At this time, the display reads “0”. If the error on the display is too large (±0.1), repeat steps 2 and 3.

3. Standard plate correction:

(1) Remove the Blake Cavity and place the whiteness standard board on the SearchUnit.
(2) Press the CHANGE key, and the display shows blank.
(3) Press the CHANGE key. At this time, the reading on the display is “75.0”, and the indicators on the STD, CHANGE, A, B, and C will all be on.
(4) Using the increments of A (tenth digits), B (single digits), and C (decimal point ones), adjust the readings on the display to the same values ​​as on the standard board.
(5) Press the STD button again, except for the indicator on the B channel, the other indicators are off, and the reading on the display is the test value. If the difference from the standard value is too large (±0.2), repeat the steps. 2 to 8.
(6) After calibration is complete, the sample can be tested.

4. Measurement:

(1) Remove the whiteness standard board.
(2) Put a stack of the same sample on the Search Unit.
(3) The value displayed by the display is the brightness of the sample.

5. Repeat the steps to take the five-point average.

(b) Opacity measurement:

1. Preparation:

(1) Connect the "Y" Search Unit, insert the Green filter, and press the G button on the panel.
(2) Select the Gain Switch button at the rear of the main unit at the Lo position. After warming up, perform the following calibration procedure.

2. Zero correction:

(1) Place the Blake Cavity on the Search Unit.
(2) Press the CHANGE key, and the display shows blank.
(3) Press the ZERO key. At this time, the display reads “0”. If the error on the display is too large (±0.1), repeat steps 2 and 3.

3. Standard plate correction:

(1) Remove the Blake Cavity, place the Sample on the Search Unit, and then cover the opaque standard board.
(2) Press the CHANGE key, and the display shows blank.
(3) Press the STD button, and the reading on the display is “75.0”. The indicators on the STD, CHANGE, A, B, and C will all be on. Use A (tenth digit),
B (single-digit) increments of C (decimal point one). Adjust the reading on the display to "99.9".
(4) Press the STD button again, except for the indicator on the G channel, the other indicators are off.
(5) Remove the opacity standard board, cover the zero point cup, then the value on the display arbitrarily jumps, and then change the sample, you can use the HOLD key.

4. Repeat the steps to take the five-point average.

1. Correct the gloss meter with gloss correction standard.
2. Place the test surface of the paper pattern to be tested in the vertical direction (MD direction) parallel to the test window, press it with a 1 kg weight, test the four corners and the center point, and record the values ​​displayed on the screen in order. Take its five-point average, which is the gloss value (%GE).
