These developments, especially the integration of computer technology and continuous improvements in printing techniques, have brought about fundamental transformations in the sector.
The first stage of the printing process involves packaging the product before printing, which imposes specific requirements on the printing location. For instance, a film may be applied to the outer packaging, and the design is printed directly onto this film. When the consumer uses the product, the original packaging is compromised, making it impossible to reuse. This method effectively serves as an anti-counterfeiting measure.
Another highly destructive material commonly used is heat-shrinkable film or other shrink films. Most of these are applied after the packaging process. If the printing is done after the packaging, the integrity of the package is completely destroyed when the product is used, resulting in a strong anti-counterfeiting effect. The pattern or text is printed on the shrink film post-packaging. Once the box is opened, the shrink film is damaged, and the printed image is also broken. As a result, the original packaging cannot be reused, which helps prevent counterfeiting by addressing vulnerabilities in the logistics chain.
Inkjet printers are frequently used in post-printing operations because they are non-contact printing systems that don’t require a perfectly flat surface on the packaging. Modern four-color inkjet printers can perform standard printing tasks efficiently, delivering satisfactory results in terms of both speed and color quality.
Laser marking machines are more expensive than inkjet printers but offer superior performance. They don’t use ink, resulting in clear, long-lasting, and hard-to-erase markings that work well on various types of packaging materials. Their non-contact nature ensures that even rough surfaces can produce high-quality prints. Hot stamping machines, on the other hand, are ideal for post-printing tasks like labels or seals.
When considering anti-counterfeiting strategies, it's essential to take into account factors such as printing equipment, materials, packaging design, and printing techniques. A comprehensive approach across these areas can lead to highly effective anti-counterfeiting solutions.
