First, adjust the length of your trekking pole correctly. Most adjustable trekking poles have two sections that can be extended or retracted. For steep inclines, extend your arms slightly in front of your body and use the poles to support your weight as you climb. You can even use both poles for extra stability. When pushing up, place your palm on the top of the pole for added leverage. When descending, position the poles in front of you, ahead of your feet, to help absorb the impact and reduce stress on your legs. Leaning forward is natural during this motion, so regular practice is key to mastering it.
