Italian lovers 3D printed electric guitar with beautiful relief
Although numerous examples show that 3D printers can create a wide range of tools and objects, a beautifully crafted 3D printed guitar like the one above is quite rare. This stunning piece was designed by Francesco Orrù, a passionate 3D printing enthusiast from Italy. He’s currently a master’s student at Kingston University and also an avid guitarist. “I wanted to build another guitar for my collection and continue exploring 3D printed musical instruments. I’m also planning to upgrade the electronics by using Seymour Duncan pickups instead of cheaper ones like Wilkinson. I’m curious about the difference it makes,†he shared.
The basic structure of this guitar follows the design of his previous project. “I used ZBrush throughout the entire design process. My partner Cemal Cetinkaya helped with optimizing some slots and joints in Rhino. He left a 0.3 mm gap in the joints to account for possible tolerances,†he explained.
However, the real challenge came from the exterior design. The inspiration came from two books by H.P. Lovecraft—*Godfish* and *Necronomicon*. “I tried to mimic the shape of the tweezers on the bottom of the guitar. I drew some ideas from the relief art on the covers of those books. I’ve always been fascinated by bone structures and sculptures, so I added a lion skull on the side,†Francesco said. “The other creatures on the upper right corner of the body were inspired by concepts I developed in a computer animation class, including a lion’s anatomy, an alien head, and a dragon’s tail.â€
This remarkable guitar was divided into eight parts and 3D printed. Six pieces formed the main body, one was the pickup cover, and the last was the volume cover. The printing was done on a Delta Wasp 3D printer, which took around 80 hours. The central pickup area required the most time. “To ensure each layer had enough strength, both parts were printed horizontally. The pickup groove was printed at 40% infill, while the rest was at 20% to balance quality and speed,†Francesco explained. The volume and pickup covers were printed separately on a Replicator 2.
If you're interested in creating a similar 3D printed guitar, you can download the STL file for free by clicking here. However, to make it sound great, you’ll need to purchase additional components like the pickup, neck, bridge, strings, volume knob, and tuning pegs separately.
A short glass cup is a small drinking vessel typically made of glass. It is shorter in height compared to other glass cups and is often used for serving beverages such as water, juice, or cocktails. The size of the cup may vary, but it is generally designed to hold a smaller amount of liquid compared to taller glass cups or tumblers. Short glass cups are commonly used in homes, restaurants, bars, and cafes.
