Introduction of three common resolutions

First, display resolution

Display resolution refers to the number of dots per unit length displayed on the display, usually measured in dots per inch (dpi). The resolution of the display depends on the size of the display and its pixel settings. The PC display resolution is generally 96 dpi.

Second, the printer resolution

The printer resolution refers to the number of ink dots produced by the printer per inch. The output resolution of most laser printers is 300 dpi-600 dpi, and the high-end laser imagesetter can be 1200 dpi or more. The dpi of the printer is the unit of measure on the print, referring to the number of dots printed per square inch. The dot size calculated on the print is different from the pixel displayed on the computer screen.

Third, the image resolution

Image resolution refers to the number of pixels contained in the linear dimension of a unit image, usually measured in pixels per inch (ppi). Two images of the same size are printed, and the high resolution image contains more pixels than the low resolution. Simply increasing the image resolution does not improve the image quality.

The correct use of image resolution should take into account the medium from which the image was ultimately released. If the produced image is only displayed on the computer screen, the resolution can be set to a typical display resolution (72ppi or 96ppi); if it is used for traditional printing, high resolution (300ppi) must be used.
