Electrolytic electrode

Karl Fischer titration method for measuring moisture content
Measuring principle:
Karl Fischer's method is a reference method for measuring the moisture content of many substances. It is based on the chemical analysis process of sulfur dioxide oxidation by iodine in methanol solution. Theoretically, the reaction proceeds as follows:
H2O + I2 + SO2 + CH3OH + 3RN-> [RNH] SO4CH3 + 2 [RNH] I
The titration process can be carried out by volume method or coulometric method.
Volumetric method: The Karl Fischer solution containing iodine is continuously added until there is a slight excess of elemental iodine. The consumed iodine is obtained by calculating the volume consumed by the Karl Fischer solvent containing iodine.
Coulometric method: The iodine participating in the reaction comes directly from the oxidation reaction of the iodide ions in the titration cup until there is a trace of excess elemental iodine. Faraday's law is used to calculate the amount of iodine produced in the electrolysis process.
Application: Karl Fischer titration is an ideal choice for moisture measurement, especially suitable for samples with high water content (volume method determination) and samples with ppm trace moisture content (coulometric method determination). The Karl Fischer method is commonly used for samples of organic solvents, but it is also suitable for soluble solid samples, or those solid samples in which water is easily released or extracted by heating.
Advantages: The reference method for the accurate measurement of the moisture content of the sample; the Coulomb method is also suitable for the measurement of trace moisture, and whether the test sample contains moisture.
