It is a mineral oil-based cleaning agent for traditional printing, but it requires a polar solvent (glycol ether) to remove UV ink. For hybrid mode applications, there are other combination cleaners (for UV and traditional inks)-it may also use two separate systems, one for UV and one for traditional cleaners. Non-classical UV (hybrid) requires specific cleaning agents.

For all printing purposes, the most important thing is to only use cleaning agents that have been approved by the printing press manufacturer; those that have been approved and certified by Fogra for various sheet-fed printing presses. Fogra has tested the compatibility of the cleaning agent with rubber rollers, blankets, cleaning devices and other parts of the printing press.

Depending on the material combination used (printing material, ink, blanket, and roller coating), cleaning system (brush roller or cleaning cloth), and type of cleaning agent, it is also important to choose the correct cleaning procedure and cycle time.

Printers who use standard four-color ink sets and make few changes usually find that a combination of cleaning agents is sufficient. However, for a wide range of inks and situations that often change, some printers have two containers—one for blanket cleaner and one for roller cleaner. These two additional containers are useful in a half-to-half combination process, which separates UV from traditional blankets and roller cleaning solutions.

Cleaner efficiency comparison

From the comparison test of the cleaning agent efficiency, it can be seen that the cleaning agent of the oily ink has an excellent effect, and the effect on the classic UV ink is also satisfactory. Testing non-classical UV (hybrid) cleaners can only achieve poor to just satisfactory results-however, the cleaners being developed for these inks will improve performance.

Expansion experiment

This simple experience shows that aggressive cleaning agents can swell rubber compounds. The three rubber samples were immersed in three cleaning agents, and the sharpness increased from left to right. After a 10 hour soak time, the sample in the test tube on the right swelled very much, while the one on the left remained almost unchanged.

The test results are summarized as follows:

Traditional ink: using a cleaning device with the most commonly used cleaning agent is generally sufficient to achieve good results.

Classic UV inks: Use appropriate UV cleaning agents to clean quickly and effectively; use a cleaning device to clean the UV inks with a combination of cleaning agents. Only one cleaning can get good results.

Non-classical UV (hybrid) inks: Traditional cleaning agents or cleaning agents for classic UV inks are not suitable for removing these inks from blankets or rollers. There are also special cleaning agents for mixed UV inks, most of which are based on vegetable oils and have a higher flash point.
