As a long-term technology used in flexo printing, the anilox roller inking system has been favored by more and more sheet-fed offset printing plants and is used as a special coating unit. However, the anilox roll coating system is different from other parts on sheet-fed offset printing, which requires special maintenance. Therefore, we must use special flexible cleaning and squeegee cleaning to maximize the performance of this system, and then achieve the purpose of improving coating quality and saving costs.

The surface of the anilox roller has fine and neat lines, so it can accurately control the amount of paint transferred from the blanket to the substrate, thereby ensuring the stability of the coating. However, if the paint remains in the texture of the anilox roller, it will not be possible to transfer the precise paint out, and the proper coating thickness cannot be guaranteed. Inconsistent coating thickness, unstable quality, low paint consumption, and uneven coating density and coverage are all signals that the anilox roller needs cleaning. Therefore, regularly cleaning the anilox roller to ensure that the ink cavity is clean and fresh can significantly reduce equipment downtime and waste.

Combining daily cleaning, weekly cleaning and regular deep cleaning helps to get the best anilox cleaning effect. Normally, we can add the centralized cleaning agent to the automatic cleaning system of the printing machine, in order to carry out effective daily cleaning of the anilox roller and prevent the coating from accumulating in the ink cavity. But simply washing with water cannot prevent the paint from hardening and clogging the ink holes, so we must use a cleaning paste or cleaning agent to clean the anilox roller at least once a week, and use a brush to remove the stubborn resin, pigment and Glue, etc. In addition, it is best to clean the anilox roller once or twice a year (using plastic brushes, ultrasonic waves, chemical cleaning, or baking soda technology) to remove residues that cannot be cleaned up through routine maintenance procedures.

Squeegee life

It is worth noting that the user's choice of doctor blade will also affect the quality of the coating. At present, many printing plants have replaced the original metal squeegee with a compound squeegee to achieve the purpose of keeping the coating uniform and saving money. The current compound squeegee not only has the same performance as the steel squeegee, but also can extend the service life to four times the latter. Its benefits mainly include the following:

Reduce the number of tool changes and increase the working time of the equipment;

Keep the coating stable and consistent;

Reduce the damage of the anilox roller and extend the life of the anilox roller;

Reduce the chance of operator injury;

Reduce paint consumption;

The friction coefficient of the compound doctor blade is lower than that of the metal doctor blade, so its service life is longer. The slower speed of the doctor blade will help maintain the integrity of the anilox roller-and it is also very helpful to control the thickness of the coating. In addition, the compound doctor blade can not only adapt to the increasing production speed, but also be compatible with matte, metal, pearlescent and UV coatings containing special ingredients.
