Pet added uv light absorber successfully developed

New PET resins that chemically incorporate UV absorbers into the polymer chain can provide protection against UV (ultraviolet) light for food, beverage, cosmetics, personal hygiene, household goods, and pharmaceutical packaging. It protects the taste, vitamins and nutrients of the user's package and maintains the color of the original item. Eastman's Voridian Chemical Company introduced the new PET resin Vitiva PET PC715, which contains FDA-approved UV absorbers and crystal clarity of PET resin.

According to Lavonna Buehrig, Director of North American Marketing at the Voridian branch, the odor and subtle taste and sweetness can be affected by sunlight and even fluorescence. Because many PET bottles are shipped in transparent film instead of cardboard, products are often exposed to sunlight, Buehrig said. It takes only 4 hours to produce noticeable changes.

Buehrig said that Vitiva resin has been designed for flexibility in exposure to sunlight, creating a unique shape and translucent colors. Bottles and containers prepared with Vitita are said to block all UV light in the 320-370 nm wavelength range. Vitita can proportionally blow 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 bottles. UV absorbers do not precipitate on the mold or dryer to form deposits, and new resins can be formed directly using existing standard PET processing techniques without the need for equipment modifications.
