Some Experiences of Using the Founder Electronic Publishing System

I. Installation and Setup of PSP Distribution System

PSP is called Postscript Processor and it is a raster image processor developed by Peking University Founder that supports PostSript Level2. Used PSP knows that it applies to Windows 3. X operating system, memory configuration after installation, otherwise it will run after an error. PSP in Windows 3. After installing in X, do the following settings:

The first step, enter the DOS state;

The second step, edit the Windows System.ini file, add EMMEXCLUDE=D000-DFFF in the [386ENH item;

The third step: Check Config. Is there Device=C:\dos\emm386 in the sys file? Exe statement, if not, you can re-enter WindoWs to run PSP, if there is, edit Config. Sys file, modified to Device=C:\dos\emm386. Exe Noems X=D000-DFFF, restart the computer, enter Windows to run PSP. If the correct settings are still not working properly, you need to check whether the hardware is conflicting. The address of the I/O port used for the series cards is 300, and the memory address is DOO0-DFFF. Try setting other cards to other addresses.

We generally use the best performance host in this department as the mainframe. In order to make full use of the device resources, we want the host to have more functions such as image processing and text formatting. Today's excellent graphic applications such as PhotoShop , FIT, etc. are all based on WIN9X, PSP on Windows 3. Running on X limits us. Once I installed DOS and Win95 dual-system boot on the distribution host, I stumbled upon Win95 and could also run PSP. Later, I tried to find that Win98 can run PSP. I do not need to set any Config. Sys\System. Ini, it's so much more convenient. Everyone can try it.

Second, the large sample files into TIFF format files

There are many advertisements for newspapers and magazines. One is to place a magazine or a newspaper, then photograph, scan, and finally perform image processing, graphic design, etc.; for example, we often use the publishing software to arrange some titles. After the paper is sampled, scan to generate a TIFF or other format file, and then add the title library. The above working procedures are very complicated, and the photo scan will affect the quality of the pictures. Can you convert the cover of the magazine and the large sample files of the newspapers directly into graphic files and provide it to advertising design and masthead production personnel? Founder's PSP and PSPNT can do it.

The PSP method is as follows:

1. Run the PSSETUP program and select TIFFPrn-COLOR or TIFFPrn-BITMAP in the "Other Printers" menu (the TIF map is a black and white binary map). The program will ask questions to generate the resolution of the TIFF file. This depends on the actual situation. The general color image or grayscale image is set to 2OO-300DPI, and the black and white image is set to 600DPI.

2. Start the PSP and select "Other Devices" in the "File" menu.

3. Select the file to be output. For the TIFF-COLOR driver, the output mode of "Option" is Gray to output the grayscale image, select CMYK or RGB to output the corresponding format color picture; for the TIFF-BITMAP driver, generate the 1BIT picture. When the hanging-in parameter is in effect, the screen angles when selecting “GRAY”, “CYAN” and other formats are different.

4. After the PSP is generated, it will prompt the user to enter the name of the TIFF file to be generated. We can arbitrarily enter the suffix as. TIF file name, preferably at the same time in front of the file name plus the desired path, otherwise the picture will be generated in the system's default directory, difficult to find.

The PSPNT method is as follows:

1. In the parameter template, select "Default for TIFF" parameter as a blueprint to create three parameter templates, which can be named as "generate black and white image", "generate gray image", "generate color image", or according to your own habits. .

2. The picture resolution is selected the same as the PSP.

3. Select "1-digit device" when generating black-and-white images, "8-bit device" in grayscale and color images, and "composite true color output" parameters in color images.

4. Select the path to generate the TIFF file

5. Select the compression method for TIFF files. The system defaults to NO COMPRESS (no compression). There are many options for compression, such as PACKBITS, LZW, and CCITT.

6. After the parameters are selected, enter the "open file" menu, open the PS file to be output, after the picture is generated, the system will automatically take a default name for the picture, placed in the selected path, the file suffix. TIF, then you can do picture processing.

Third, linearization test and adjustment

Linearization testing and adjustment, also known as grayscale conversion, is an important part of ensuring the quality of the output of the system. This work must use the transmission densitometer as a tool. Because many photocopying departments do not purchase the instrument due to cost, the phototype quality will Certainly affected by the proposal to buy can buy, borrow to borrow, to complete this work to ensure the quality of phototypes. The following uses the PSPNT as an example to talk about the method (the PSP method is basically the same).

Open a parameter template, click “Parameters” from the dialog box, and click “Grayscale Conversion” to open the dialog box shown in the figure. The left and right sides of the dialog box are represented by curves and numerical values respectively. The ideal numerical value and actual value status of the output dot percentage. The system will automatically generate a compensation curve after entering the actual network percentage value. This adjustment can be performed on a single color plate, or it can be set that all color plates use the same compensation curve, usually the latter. The basic process is as follows:

1. Before you change the actual value, tap Test Results. The system will automatically output a multi-level grayscale strip to the photosetter. After rinsing, use the densitometer to test the black part (first the densitometer to air to zero). The value should be between 4.O-4.2, if not Need to adjust the laser value or rinse conditions, repeat the above process until the density meets the requirements and then do the following.

2. Return the density meter to the blank space of the film, and then measure the percentage value of the dot of each color block on the gray scale one by one, and make a record.

3. Enter the actual measured value into the edit box on the right. For example, if the actual net measured at 60% is 69%, 69 is entered in the box to the right of 60%. Observe whether the curve on the left side is smooth. Due to the reason of the phototypewriter densitometer itself, it may cause some inaccuracies. Therefore, it is not necessary to copy the measurement parameters, and some artificial modifications are made to make the individual protrusions of the curve smoother. Something can make the output level not out of touch.

4. Click “Test Results”, output the film, rinse and then test. The result should be close to the correct value. If there is any difference, adjust it again.

5. Click “save to public data” and the adjusted grayscale curve is stored as a file that can be called by other parameter templates
